Race At Your Own Risk...Especially If You're A Snake!

What happened to the snake who tried to cross the road? He got squished. Yes, apparently there are rattlesnakes out here too.

Watch out here I come! These pictures are all more pictures I found from last week's race #4.

I know it looks like I'm going to cry, but it's just sheer concentration trying to get up this hill.

These are all reasons why I chose not to showboat during this race. Ouch!

I'm sure he's smiling because he's still alive after being trampled.

Anyone want to join me? Next race is tonight!

My Little Lightning Bolt!

The boys got new shoes yesterday and have been running around all over the place showing off their new speed. When I dropped Scott off at school this morning he tore down the sidewalk to class with legs blazing. When I picked him up he came sprinting to the truck. He got in and said "Mom, these shoes make me run so much faster! I'm not sure, but I think I'm half lightning bolt!" My little stud.

Race #4-April 22nd

Right from the get-go I got stuck behind these girls who were very timid through this part of the course and were driving me crazy. I couldn't wait to pass them!

This week the course was very technical with lots of ups and downs and fast turns and plenty of places to catch air. I chose not to get too crazy for fear of ending up like so many men did this week...broken bikes and broken bodies!

I was robbed! I just had my bike tuned up and the gears started jumping around on me worse than before I had the tune up. It cost me 3rd place! At the very last part of the race I had passed three of the women who had been way ahead of me. The third one passed me, though, after my gears locked up and I couldn't get up this short steep hill. I had to jump off, run up the hill, and jump back on. By that time she had passed me and despite my best efforts I couldn't catch her in the end. She beat me by 5 seconds! I took 4th place. Next week...

My friend, Mary, showing the boys how it's done!

This is the girl who passed me at the last minute.

This is just after I got passed at the very end and lost my 3rd place!

Race #3- April 15th

My starts are always a little rough. I can't seem to get my foot clicked into my pedal as fast as the others do. I'm in the black shirt with the white sleeves chasing the pack down. The girl in the red on the left in the front is the girl I've been trying to beat. I finally beat her this race! Too bad it took her falling in the mud for me to do it. :)

I always love being chased by men!

Oh no you don't!

This kid was going to be the death of me. He kept hot-doggin' in front of me and I was waiting for him to eat it and make me wreck.

This was another good, fun race. I improved to 4th place this time. Watch out, here I come!

Easter + Camping = FUN!

For spring break/Easter this year we went camping. We had intended to go to Lake of the Springs, about 2 hours away, but Noah decided to have the stomach flu the day we were leaving so at the last second we decided to go to the Ponderosa Resort instead, which is only 30 minutes away. That way if things got worse we could get home quickly. Luckily, Noah did well and the rest of us managed to stay healthy. We left later than planned, as usual, so we arrived in the dark and it was raining. The boys waited in the truck while Steve and I put the tents up using only the light from the headlights of the truck and getting soaked. Good times. It rained all night and most of Friday, but there was a beautiful sunny break in the afternoon just long enough for me to head out on the most beautiful peaceful run through a state park. I ventured up a promising hill until I read a sign that warned about mountain lions. Basically, it said to hike at your own risk. Keep your children close because they are especially tasty to mountain lions. Don't hike alone. Great. I kept running for a bit until I was just too freaked out and sprinted back down the trail to safety.

The rest of the weekend was sunny and warm. We had our own Easter egg hunt with the kids on Friday. On Saturday the kids made Easter baskets, met the Easter Bunny, and had another Easter egg hunt with the camp organizers. Scott only got two eggs (no thanks to his sour puss attitude at the moment) and the camp organizers felt sorry for our boys. I assured them we were just fine, definitely not lacking in the candy department, but they insisted on sending the Easter Bunny to our campsite with 3 fully stocked Easter baskets. That makes 4 Easter baskets this year. Our poor deprived children!

We took the kids hiking and touring the Marshall Gold Discovery State Park. This was just a 1/2 mile from our camp. It is where gold was discovered and started the big gold rush of California. Pretty cool.
We enjoyed relaxing, reading books, and watching the kids play together. It was a great weekend!

Prairie City Race #2--April 8th

After working my butt off all week and dropping about 6 lbs I improved this week to 6th place and felt MUCH better. I actually had fun!

Easter Fun with Grandpa Peres and Phyllis

The Tuesday before Easter the boys were invited on an outing with their Grandpa Peres. There was an Easter activity at the community center. The boys played games, had an Easter egg hunt, and met the Easter Bunny, but the highlight was petting the bunnies. They were so cute! The boys didn't want to put them down. They would have stayed there all day if I'd let them. After the activity we went to a buffet for lunch and the boys were in hog heaven. They kept eating and eating until I thought they would explode and then they'd eat some more. Thanks for a great day, Grandpa and Phyllis.
